A Healthy Day Out + Smoothie Recipe

Hey guys!

Healthy. Sometimes, its not always about nutrition and fitness. Sometimes, its about getting out with your friends, leaving stress behind and making corny jokes. Well, that’s what I did yesterday and it was amazing!

First we stopped by iCantina Tortilla Grill, a place I’ve never been, to grab a fish taco…which was alright. The fact they only give you one taco for 5 bucks is a little expensive. But 1 was enough.

The Fish Taco has spicy slaw, a (piece) of avocado, sauce, and baked tilapia that has been marinated in butter. Like oh my gosh, butter! Whatevs

We shared some chips, which you had to buy. Look, most Mexican restaurants I go to, they serve you unlimited amounts of chips for free. What’s up with having to buy $3 worth of chips, which is hardly any! They were good though.

We headed to the Birmingham Museum of Art afterward, which my 19 years of living in Alabama, I’ve never stepped foot in there. Never cared too…so sad! The European 17th-18th century art and sculptures were probably my favorite part. It was just way too beautiful.

We couldn’t take pictures of the artwork…so you will have to suffice with trees and glass windows.

Stopped at my favorite coffee shop, The Red Cat, afterward and shared a scone and brownie.

On my way back home, I finally stopped at Dick’s Sporting Goods and got myself a new pair of running shoes! My feet shall thank me today as I run!

For dinner last night, I opened a can of chickpeas and chopped some fresh veggies to put on a bed of Arugula with a little vinaigrette drizzled on top.

It’s already Friday? Can you believe it? You have any plans this weekend?

You know, I’m always inspired with Julie’s Things I’m Loving Friday Posts, so I thought I’d do one. It’s been a while since I’ve done a ‘faves’ post…so, here we go!

I can’t get enough of this hat! I have been trying for months to find a new hat that fit my head perfectly. I walked in Dick’s and found this one. I need it in all colors.

I did Legs on Saturday and I was sore for a total of 72 hours. Hurt so, so bad. Thank God for foam rollers, but hey, I also would have loved a parking permit like this one down below.

  • Hiking in the middle of the week

My mom, sister, and myself went on a hike in the middle of the day for 3 hours in Oak Mountain (On Tuesday). Straight up to Peavine Falls and back (8 miles total). Talk about SORE forever. It was all uphill on the way up so we definitely got a good sweat in.

Definitely going to have to get more of this stuff. Also, these packets are so neat!

Okay, I’m so excited. Look at what came in the mail yesterday! Holy cow

Really excited to use this. I’ve never, ever, ever, used a magic bullet. I’m pumped. I will be making lots of recipes. So, beware!

  • What’s your favorite running hat?
  • Do you go through smoothie phases?
  • Where’s your favorite place to hike? (Show me a picture?)
  • Would you like me to share my leg workout I’ve been doing?

Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie Recipe

This fine Monday, I’ve got a fabulous recipe and review for you. I was very blessed to receive a package of Vega One (All-In-One) Protein Powder from the wonderful people at Vega.

Now, I’m really picky about my protein powder…which, I assume most of you are. My protein powder needs to be:

  • Nutritious
  • Tasteful
  • Easy to use in all my recipes
  • And most importantly…made with EXCELLENT ingredients.

I’m very happy to say, that Vega HIT all of those key points. This health nut is quite pleased.

IMG_20140530_131626

Here’s some delicious information about Vega One:

  • It has 50% of your daily intake of vitamins & minerals!
  • A whopping 15g of Protein
  • 6g Fiber
  • 1.5g omega-3…what!? Awesome
  • Antioxidants
  • Probiotics (which is so, so important! Especially for those who don’t take probiotics in their daily habits)
  • AND you get your GREENS! Yay

I think my favorite part of Vega All-In-One shake is that I can get all of that nutrition without putting so much effort. This is probably one of the best things, in my opinion, for those who are busy and on-the-go. We all forget to take the time to get our vitamins in or planning our meals to make sure we get out all of our greens and antioxidants. Vega makes it a little easier for us. Thank you, Vega!

As soon as I got the protein, I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to make. I’ve been in the mood for chocolate and mint lately, so why not make an extra creamy Mint Chocolate Chip smoothie!? It was the best idea ever. It was so good and there are seriously no words to describe it.

Mint Choc. Chip Smoothie

I added a little water after I got everything going in the blender since the cashews will make it extra creamy and thick.

If you happen to serve it to others or you just want to take a pretty picture, you can garnish it with more mint leaves and chopped dark chocolate…mmmm, yum!

I think I will be making this A LOT this summer. A LOT.

Questions:

  • What’s your favorite protein powder?
  • Do you think you’ll make this smoothie?

Disclosure: I received a free package of Vega Protein from Vega in exchange for writing a review on the blog.
