Habits of a Runner

Hey friends! Wow, 3 day weekends are pretty awesome, am I right? I hope you all had a great weekend and I wish you a happy Monday!

To kick off my Half Marathon Training, I’m going to share with you some of the habits of runners that I notice. Let me know in the comments what other habits you notice that I haven’t listed.

1. Spitting (Okay, yeah it’s gross)

We all do it. When you’re walking on the pavement, sidewalk, parking lot, anywhere where a runner might have crossed and you see a big wod of spit…yeah, that’s us. We do it a lot. It’s a habit, we don’t even think about it.

And I know I’ve had my fair share of getting some of a runner’s spit on me during a race. Nasty.

Spit while running a charity race. People Stare. Runner problems.

2. Constantly looking at our GPS watch

I just realized how much of a habit this was when I went running without my Garmin the other day (<–OMG). I looked at my arm a total of 5 times within 1 mile. Its that bad.

Running humor. @Stephanie Raley Harmon Yaeger this reminds me of your CIM race this year!

3. Running while Driving…wait what?

Yeah, I know you do it. Driving up a big hill thinking to yourself, “I’m so glad we have cars. I would hate to run up this” or “Man, this would be a great hill for hill repeats!”

Or looking at the mileage to a destination, “10 miles? Dude, I could run that.”

4. Dreaming of running a race out of state or country.

Yepp, we all want to run Boston.

You’d love to plan a trip to Honolulu and tackle that marathon.

Or, better yet, how about the London marathon. You think, “One day! One day!” Aw, you’re so hopeful. I like it.

run ALL the races!

5. Planning Your Vacation around Running

Okay, I know this one pretty well. Myself, my father, and my mother are all runners. So, when we pick a place to vacation at, here’s how a conversation might go, “Can we run there? Not too much traffic, you think? How far can we run? Wait…there better be a place to run. I’m not going—oh, okay. 2.5 mile road. Alright, we can do that. Whew!”

This site has all the running ecards a person can handle! Love it. ecards/_0008_s5-93_18_08_13_15_31.png

6. Taking more than 1 day off, we begin to panic.

If I take off 2 days in a row…there better be a good reason. I start stressing. I know we all do. I see it all over twitter and instagram. Gosh, it cracks me up at how ridiculous we are. But I guess that’s why they call us crazy, right?

The Leg Thing

7. Magically tricking ourselves into running.

We’ve been working all day. We obviously don’t want to run. We somehow get our running shoes on, we head out the door, turn our GPS on, all the while we repeat in our heads, “Do not want to run. Do not want to run. Do not want to run.” Suddenly, we’ve finished 3 miles and we end up doing 2 extra because, “Hey I gotta hit my mileage goal for the week!”

Running clothes

Always

8. Long runs are a weekend thing no matter what.

Um, I don’t know about you, but I do long runs all year around. Yeah, I take a week or two off of the long runs here and there. But 8-12 mile long runs are still in my routine when I’m not in training mode. I know a freaking ton of runners who still do like 13 mile long runs…for fun…Are we crazy or what? Who does that Winking smile

9. Posting all our runs on social media.

This was my negitive self before I crossed over. Now, seeing someone else's running FB post is just a competition to who's got the fastest pace...

And just for fun, take a look at the top 10 marathons (link down below)

Happy 1 year Blog Anniversary & I Enrolled in Nutrition School!

Good morning all!

Today, January 7th, is my 1st anniversary for my blog. Last year at this time, it dawned on me what I should call my blog. I was looking at two different words:

“in shape” and “cupcake”

And all of a sudden, I looked at my mom and I said “I finally know what I’ll call my blog! In Shape Cupcake!”

You don’t understand, it took me like a month to figure out what to call my blog. It was taking all my brain energy just trying to put something together.

…”I haven’t touched pop tarts since I was 10.”

I have been through a lot since last year. A ton of changes have occurred and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • I’ve grown in my spiritual faith. God is always #1 in this world. He is the CENTER of it all. It’s not about me…it is about HIM!
  • My grandmother passed away, but she’s in Heaven, praising the Lord.
  • I was offered an amazing job this Fall.
  • I experienced how it feels when your car almost breaks down in the middle of the night on a highway. Freaky.
  • I started going to WORD ALIVE International Outreach Church in August and I hope I don’t have to go to another church forever!
  • I graduated high school and I’m so GLAD!
  • I discovered cappuccinos and they are so foamy!
  • I’ve been able to give and let my light shine

I also have a big announcement!

For the past 2 years, I’ve been wanting to enroll in The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. That is what I chose instead of college. I wanted some that fit me. A place that had Audrey written all over it. And IIN was the school!

I finally enrolled yesterday and I’m so darn happy about it!

IIN is…”The Health Coach Training Program is a year-long online course specially designed for people who are passionate about health and wellness. Whether you’re interested in learning about nutrition, launching a meaningful new career, or even changing the world, Integrative Nutrition will empower you to transform your life and achieve your personal and professional goals.”  Source

I know a few other bloggers who have graduated and they absolutely loved it. But I just know this is what I need to do and I’m more than excited.

I start in February and I can NOT wait! Eek!

1 year from now, I’ll be graduated and a certified health coach. Then it will be time to start my personal training certification with NASM. So I’m buckling down and I’m ready!

My dream is to have my own health and fitness studio that focuses on personal one on one training and coaching that empowers women. It’s all about health and love. Not about just how great you look. That is only a perk. I also hope to do a lot more because I’ve got some crazy good ideas.

If you want to know more about the program, just ask this crazy runner.

I also hope to do some recaps on how much I like the program (every once in a while) and will do a full recap when I’m graduated. Stay tuned!

I Feel Most Awkward When…

I’m at the post office

I think its just me…I don’t know why. But I try to avoid the post office.

I’m running strides in the grass

Running strides in the grass is just so awkward. Any other runners feel me here?

I’m either overdressed or underdressed

This one, I feel like a lot of people feel awkward about. But I can NOT stand it if I’m wearing something really nice and everyone else is wearing nike shorts and tshirts. Just no.

I’m Plie squatting

I make sure I do these when there is no one around. I even find these awkward to do when I’m alone. I rarely do these.

When people sing Happy Birthday to me

I don’t know what to do. Am I supposed to sing too or just smile? Because I don’t want to just stand there smiling. And singing to myself is kind of weird. Don’t you think?

Asking for fresh slice lunch meat.

I don’t even know.

Wearing a helmet

I rarely ride a bike or horse back ride…why? Because I HATE helmets.

Alright, that was fun.

  • Tell me something where you feel most awkward!
